Reading is one of the communicative skills which have a very complex process. The readers are expected able to comprehend what they have read. Therefore, the researcher conducted this research aims to find out whether reciprocal techniques can increase students' ability in reading comprehension. In this research, used quantitative method to analyze the data which used pre-experimental design. The researcher used achievement test, specifically multiple choice test refers to recount text as the instrument to collecting the data. This research took 20 students of SMP N 5 Gorontalo at second grade (Class VIII A) as the sample. The result of this research showed, the mean score in pre-test was 8.5 and in post-test the mean score was 14. In this research, the hypothesis found that tcount > tlist with a value of 19.64 > 2.101. It means that the hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Thus, the conclusion is the reciprocal technique can increased students' ability in reading comprehension of the second grade in SMP N 5 Gorontalo.
