Abstract
The aims of this research are to investigate what kinds of questioning strategy that used by English teacher and what is the reason of teacher using question strategy during the classroom interaction at SMPN 1 Telaga Biru. This research applied qualitative approach and used theory of Xuerong (2012) as the steps to analyze the data. The data of research were collected by observation in the class and interview two English teachers at SMPN 1 Telaga Biru. The result of the research is showed that the teacher actively used Planning-Question Strategy and Controlling-Question Strategy. The English teacher used questioning strategies to asked question related to the students, to check about students' understanding in material, to attract students' attention, to stimulate students to participate in the class and to motivate students in learning. According to the English teacher, question strategy is important because by asking teacher may know students' acknowledgment and potential, that's why teacher used questioning strategies during the classroom interaction.
