This study aims to find out the relationship between emotional intelligence and student speaking scores and measure how strong the relationship between the two variables is. This research takes place at the State University of Gorontalo. The sample in this study involved 2017 class A students in the 5th semester, who had completed speaking for academic purposes. This study uses the Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Quotient Inventory (Bar-On EQ-I) which was designed by Reuven Bar-On. Furthermore, this study uses an adapted version of the Bar-On EQ-I developed by Acar (2001) as a tool to measure students' emotional intelligence scores. Furthermore, this research is a quantitative study, where to calculate and obtain research results, the normality method is used to measure whether the data is normally distributed or not, then continued with Pearson Product Moment measurements to determine the correlation between students' emotional intelligence and the final score of speaking for academic purposes. This study uses the SPSS program to help calculate the data. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive relationship or correlation between students' emotional intelligence and the final score of speaking. The Pearson Correlation between Emotional Intelligence and Speaking Scores is at .893, which shows that the correlation between the two variables is very high based on the interpretation table made by Arikunto (2006).
