Abstract
Students' perspective is students' point of view or opinion regarding their thought towards a subject they have learned. Therefore by finding students' perspectives on grammar teaching methods, the educators can figure out which grammar teaching method is needed by the students in the learning process. This study is aimed to elaborate the students' perspectives on the grammar teaching method in English education department, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. This study observed the students in English Education Department at the 5th semester in academic year class of 2019. This class consist of 5 class, then the researcher choose 5 sample randomly from each class, so the sample of this study is 25 students.This research use descriptive quantitative as the method of research. Then the data of this research is obtained from questionnaires. The questionnaire consists of 2 grammar teaching methods that are Explicit and Implicit methods, each of them consist of about six statements, and in each statement, there are several options that students can choose, namely: strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, and strongly disagree. The result of this research revealed that each of the students has a different perspective on what method they need. It is because the results of the questionnaire showed about 80% of students chose to agree with every statements in explicit method, and most of them also chose neutral to the statements in the implicit method, with the average percentage of 37%-70%. Therefore the students can be taught in implicit and explicit methods, because both of these methods have their respective advantages, and it is based on the needs of each student.
