Abstract
Onomatopoeia is often applied in a comic in order to create perceptible effects that mimic the visual thing being described in either the written terms or the actions in comic. This research focuses on analyzing the types of onomatopoeia in Batman Online Comic. This study aims to figure out the kinds of onomatopoeia words in Batman Online Comic. In analyzing this, the researcher applied descriptive-qualitative method. The onomatopoeia words were obtained by reading the comic and taking note for the bubbles which is categorized as onomatopoeoia. Fourty-eight data found as the onomatopoeia which collected from the four series of Batman online comic utilized in this research. The researcher classified the data into seven classifications based on how the sound produced; beating & hitting, explosion, expression, crashing, machine, movement & flapping, and electrocution & nature. After that, Bredin Hugh theory also utilized to categorize the data found; Direct Onomatopoeia, Associative Onomatopioea, and Exemplary Onomatopiea. It is assumed that the presence of onomatopoeia in a comic sometime prevents the reader do not fully understand the content of the comic. The researcher hopes this study can help people in understanding the onomatopoeic words in the comic.
