Abstract
ABSTRACT Gobel, S. 2022: â�Å"Exploring the Approach of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) on Speaking Subject�. English Department, Faculty of letter and culture. Supervisor: (1) Dr. Rasuna Talib, M.Hum, (2) Rahmawaty Mamu, S.Pd., M.Pd. This study aims to observe the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) on speaking class at English Department in the 2021/2022 academic year using the theory of Crawford (2001). The method used was qualitative method. The observation were used as data collection by using indicators of CTL as suggested by Crawford, namely REACT. The theory of Miles and Huberman (1994) was used in this study as the steps to analyze the data which consist of data reduction, data presenting and conclusion. The result of this study found out that REACT were not applied in six meetings on speaking class. Relating was applied in meeting one by lecturer A and in every meeting by lecturer B, Experiencing was not applied by the two lecturers, Applying was applied in 3 meetings of lecturer A and none by lecturer B, Cooperating also was applied in 3 meetings by lecturer A and none by lecturer B, Transferring was not applied at all by the two lecturers. It showed that the REACT were not applied entirely. It can be conclude that, the Contextual Teaching and Learning were not applied in speaking class. Therefore, it can suggested that the English teacher should use this approach not only to speaking subject but also for another subjects. Keywords: CTL, REACT, Speaking.
