Abstract
This research investigates the utterance containing the directive act in the Songbird movie directed by Adam Mason. The purpose of this study is to describe utterances in the selected Movie that involve directive acts. The data in this study is described using a qualitative method. The researcher collected the data by watching the movie and noted the utterances that contain directive acts, as well as arranging the data in a table. After collected the data, the researcher categorized the data into 24 types of directive acts as defined by Searle and Vanderveken (1985). The result of this research showed that 19 of 24 types of directive acts founded in this movie are directing, requesting, asking, urging, telling, requiring, commanding, forbidding, prohibiting, permitting, suggesting, insisting, warning, recommending, begging, supplicating, entreating, beseeching, and imploring. Based on the analysis, all of these types have the same expression of attempting to get someone to do something. Keywords: Speech Act, Illocutionary Act, Directive Act, Songbird Movie
