Abstract
ABSTRAK Sri Widyawati Nue. 2014.Pembuatan Arang Aktif dari Tempurung Kelapa Sebagai Adsorben Logam Merkuri (Hg)Suatupenelitian di Laboratorium Kimia UniversitasNegeriGorontalo). Tangio, S.Pd, M.Pd Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui daya serap arang aktif dari tempurung kelapa terhadap logam merkuri (Hg). Bahan yang digunakan berupa arang tempurung dan limbah artifisial merkuri, Hg(NO3)2. Proses karbonasi dilakukan dalam tungku pembakaran, selanjutnya arang yang dihasilkan dihaluskan dan diayak dengan ukuran 38, 45, dan 90 mesh dan dilanjutkan dengan aktivasi menggunakan H2SO4 3 M. Arang aktif sudah di aktivasi dipanaskan dalam oven pada suhu 105oC selama 4 jam. Proses selanjutnyanya arang aktif digunakan untuk mengadsorpsi logam merkuri pada variasi waktu dan ukuran partikel arang aktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa daya serap arang aktif dari tempurung kelapa terhadap logam merkuri dengan ukuran partikel 90 mesh 8462 ppm (84,62%) dan waktu perendaman 30 menit adalah yang terbaik. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa daya adsorpsi arang aktif tempurung kelapa terhadap logam merkuri berkisar 3912 - 8462 ppm. Dari hasil uji daya serap terhadap larutan iodium berkisar 85% - 98%.Kata Kunci :Arang Aktif, Tempurung Kelapa, Logam Merkuri.ABSTRACT Sri Widyawati Nue, The Making of Active Charcoal from the Coconut Shell as The Adsorben Of Mercury (Hg). A research conducted chemical labarotory of universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Skripsi, Departement of Chemistry Education, Faculty of Mathematich and Natural sciences, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. The principal supervisor was Prof. Dr. Ishak Isa, M.Si and the co-supervisor was Julhim S. Tangio, S.Pd, M.Pd.The research animed to investigate the absorpsion of active charcoal from coconut shell toward mercury (Hg). The material used was charcoal of coconut shell and artificial waste of mercury, Hg(NO3)2. The process of carbonization was done in furnace. Then the result of charcoal would be mashed and sifted by the mesh size of 38, 45, and 90. After that, it would be be activated by using H2SO4 3 M. The result of that active charcoal then would be heated in the oven at 105oC for 4 hours. The next process was the active charcoal was used to adsorb the mercury at variation time and size of active particle. The research result showed that the best adsorption power of active charcoal from coconut shell toward the mercury was with the mesh size of 90 of 8462 ppm (84,26%) and 90 minuts of immersion. The result also showed that the adsorption power of active charcoal toward the mercury was between 3912-8462 ppm. While the result of adsorption toward the iodine substance was between 85%-98%.Keywords: Activat Charcoal, Coconut Shell, Metal Mercury.
