Abstract
Concrete is generally composed of a mixture of cement, water, fine aggregate and coarse aggregate, other material (admixture or additive) added to improve the quality of concrete. One of the material commonly used is pozzolan. Artificial pozzolan is a combustion product of agricultural waste, generally combustion product of agricultural waste have silica. Corn cob ash estimated have silica because of its fiber and is a graminae crops such as rice plant and sugarcane. This study aims to determine the amount of silica in the corn cobs ash, and the relationship between the addition of corn cob ash for concrete compressive strength, porosity and absorption. Bottom ash from corn cob ash is used to qualify sieve no.50 (0.3 mm) and retained sieve no. 100 (0.15 mm). Corn cob ash added to concrete was 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% by weight of cement. The test results show corn cob ash has silica at 11.563%. The addition of corn cob ash in the concrete influence of concrete compressive strength, i.e. more ash added concrete compressive strength decreases with increasing porosity. Keywords: Bottom ash, compressive strength, porosity.
