Abstract
Kata Kunci : Toksisitas, Daun Gedi Merah (Abelmoschus manihot L.), LC50, Antikanker Red gedi (Abelmoschus manihot L.) leaves are one of the plants widely used by the community as herbal medicine. Red gedi (Abelmoschus manihot L.) leaves contain chemical compounds, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, tannins, and polyphenol. However, some of these compounds can be cytotoxic at certain levels. Additionally, a toxicity test using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method is an initial screening to test a plant with cytotoxic potential for developing anticancer drugs. Thus, this study aimed to determine the secondary metabolites and toxicity and figure out the lethal concentration 50 (LC50) value in n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol extracts of red gedi (Abelmoschus manihot L.) leaves. Furthermore, the testing was done through different concentrations, namely control solutions, 12.5, 25, 50, 100, and 500 pm, with three times replication. Each concentration used ten larvae, whilst the observation of larvae mortality was carried out for 24 hours. The findings denoted that n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol extracts of red gedi (Abelmoschus manihot L.) leaves had a potential to be highly toxic with LC50 values of 206.062 ppm, 177.82 ppm, 139.958 ppm, and 70.307 ppm, respectively.
